Bitumen group appoints new president

European bitumen association Eurobitume has appointed Siobhan McKelvey as its new president.

Ms McKelvey, who is the marketing director of materials producer Nynas, was previously the association’s vice president and was elected to succeed Carl Robertus at an extraordinary general meeting in Brussels.

Among her priorities are to continue the work already achieved during the last 12 months to develop the organisation with a strong focus on widening the scope of Eurobitume’s membership.

“At the same meeting new statutes were signed to establish the framework for a new integrated organisation with the opportunity to create national initiatives across Europe,” she told TP Weekly News. “A new level of associate membership will also be introduced and we have redefined the criteria for core members as well. The foundations have been set and we will be focusing on the transition this year.”

Ms McKelvey sits on the organising committee for the sixth International Eurasphalt & Eurobitume Congress which takes place in Prague next June. She has also chaired the association’s public relations and communications committee for the last 10 years.

Eurobitume works to champion the efficient, effective and safe use of refined bitumen in road, industrial and building applications throughout the continent. The group is also focusing on ways to create an association with a stronger voice, to represent the interests of its members.

Eurobitume was formed in 1969 as a forum to share and develop technical and scientific information relating to the bitumen industry, improve health and safety standards and oversee technical progress.
